Miami Arts Charter School (for students wishing to enroll in the middle or high school creative writing program) The writing portfolio should reflect your interest in and ability with poetry, fiction or creative non-fiction and should include examples of your best work. It should be typed and proofread. Portfolio pieces should be presented in standard format: typed with 1-inch margins, in black ink, double-spaced (with the exception of poetry, which should be single-spaced unless between stanzas) and using Times New Roman or Arial font, size 12. The portfolio should comprise eight to ten pieces of original work written or revised during the last year, including but not limited to: · Two works of short fiction (short stories) · Four works of poetry using a variety of styles, forms and subjects · Two works of creative non-fiction in the style of a personal or reflective essay or memoir—not a report for school Supplemental works may include a school paper, essay, or report; an original play no longer than ten pages in proper manuscript form; or, a general entry that could be a journal entry, a letter, or anything not listed as a requirement. Candidates who are unable to present all of the suggested portfolio materials should submit as many of the requirements as possible accompanied by written teacher evaluation(s) detailing the candidate’s interests and writing ability. |
