Miami Arts Charter School

(For all students wishing to audition for placement into the advanced middle school vocal music program)

PLEASE NOTE: Middle school programs typically select students for the advanced music program who have transitioned from the beginning and intermediate programs within the school throughout the previous year or two. As a new school, Miami Arts Charter Middle will accept both beginning and advanced students in order to fill advanced ensembles. However, after two years it is anticipated that available advanced seats will become more limited as such positions will be filled with existing students.

GENERAL PROCEDURES

  • Students should arrive early to warm-up.
  • The prepared selections should not be more than 5 minutes total.
  • Direct any questions to the music department via eMail.

VOCAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Students will be required to sing one (1) selection from memory: 
  • The selection may be a folk song, classical piece, patriotic song or a simple hymn.
  • Pop music or Rap should not be considered.
  • Students will be asked to display pitch recognition and sight-singing skills.
  • A brief and informal music theory survey will be conducted to determine theoretical knowledge.
Students may provide their own accompanist or bring a high quality recorded accompaniment CD. There should be NO VOCALS on this recording. Selections may be performed without accompaniment (a cappella).
