The curriculum in social studies is comprised of four main components that can be studied in order to understand the factors that have most affected people and societies from the earliest points of recorded civilization. The four components are Time, Continuity and Change (History), People, Places and the Environment (Geography), Government and the Citizen (Civics and Government), Production, Distribution and Consumption (Economics). Through the analysis of various cultures throughout time, students will be able to analyze and process events in history to determine the nature of interactions among civilizations in the modern world. Lessons will be structured to develop skills in analyzing historical evidence, using said evidence effectively, to identify bias in specific cultural resources and make empathetic arguments. Knowledge of facts will be used to stimulate thinking and oral or written expressions within a historical context when studying the past in order to understand the present.
